What's So Good About Friday?

Tomorrow is a very important day for Christians. If you do not attend church, you probably are wondering why Christians would call it Good Friday. In truth, many Christians do not even understand that. So I thought I would share what is so good about this Friday.

From the beginning of time, God made a decree that nothing imperfect could enter into Heaven (the place where God dwells). Non-Christians might think this is rather bigoted of God, but, after all, He is God and He created everything, so He has the right to decide who and what gets to live in His Heaven. God then created Adam and Eve and gave them free will to choose how they would live. They chose to disobey the one and only rule that God put into place for them. God said the penalty for their disobedience, their sin, was death.

Sin is actually an archery term which means you failed to hit the bullseye or the failure to be perfect. God is the only one who has the right and the authority to sit in judgement over us, and He has found each of us guilty. The penalty for our sin is death, only through the shedding of blood can there be forgiveness of sin.

But even prior to the sin of Adam and Eve, prior to their creation even, God had already set in motion a plan to personally pay the penalty for their failures and for ours. Our sin condemned us to death, but God chose to die in our place. About 2000 years ago on a Friday following the traditional Jewish Passover feast, Jesus was crucified in our place. He willingly chose to pay the death penalty for us. That is why this day is good; not because He died, but because He died for me and He died for you.

I pray that every person who reads this will accept the offer by Jesus to take your place, to pay the penalty for your sins. Then you too will understand why tomorrow is such a Good Friday.
